Nosotros found that this was a real skillful recipe, even so, I did tweak it a little scrap. Later on it cooked for 4 hrs, I saw the broth was sparse, then I removed some of the juice. Subsequently tasting it, I found it quite bland. I chose to apply chinese 5 spice, celery table salt and black pepper for the seasonings, and it was spectacular. I likewise added fresh mushrooms. Next fourth dimension, I might add more mushrooms, forget the stewed tomatoes, and utilize Love apple soup instead of the juice.

I following this recipe exactly as written, just information technology came out with way also much tomato taste to it. I will not brand this once more. I wanted a beef stew recipe that actually tastes like beef, not all tomato plant. I'll keep looking.

Overall, this beef stew was very delicious. The first time I fabricated information technology the potatoes weren't quite soft enough, but I remember it was considering information technology smelled and so adept and I got impatient and began eating ;-) This stew also tastes very adept with a white or vidalia onion substituted for the yellow onion. Great recipe!

This stew will warm you right up. The beef was tender fabricated a hearty meal, but it tasted a little bland. In the futurity I will add more than salt and doctor it up with some spices.

This is a skillful foundation for stew however needs a LOT of boosting and personalization. I can't imagine anyone eating it 'equally is' in the recipe. Beginning, you need some herbs and nix the jalepeno. Jalepeno in stew? Interesting but really? Also, never cook raw beef in a slow cooker without browning first...even if for 5 moinutes on each side. The browning procedure activates amino acids in the beef to enhance the flavor... that is Slow Cooking 101. Y'all don't need to practice this with pork or chicken, but with beef it actually is a must or yous'll become very banal meat. And then 3 stars for the recipe 'equally is' with the understanding that this is the foundation of a potentially bully stew... much more than needs to exist added to make it 5.

I made this recipe because it seemed so quick and easy. Information technology was simply that, and it was likewise die for. I cooked it for 6 people coming to my firm for dinner and they raved nearly it and all want the recipe. This recipe will become a regular repast in my house.

Broth was thin, and a little too tomato plant-y. The meat turned out ok, but potatoes were still not cooked all the way afterward nine hours and I did soak them...

This recipe starts out so simple yet winds up tasting sooooo keen! Nice going!
02/21/2000
Good, easy recipe to make. I made information technology without marinating and the season was still very good. The broth was a fleck thin. Overall, expert ane-dish meal.
01/16/2005
simple just succulent. didn't make any alterations to the recipe, i found information technology worked as is.
12/05/2001
This is so, so good! I added celery, too. It's great to come home later a long day to this stew!
06/27/2010
I am deplorable but I cannot give this a loftier rating. I followed the recipe to the letter, but even afterwards thirteen 1/ii hours in the crockpot, the potatoes and carrots were even so not done. The taste was ok, but this i is definitely Non a keeper. Talq

This was a actually proficient dish, only I made some changes. First, I didn't include carrots, herb seasoning, or jalapeno peppers. Instead of tomato juice, I used ii cans of Campbell'south One-time Fashioned Tomato Rice Soup and 1 can of water. I also put in an addition 2 or 3 tbsp. of Worcestershire sauce and stirred it in the crock pot. I sprinkled pepper in the mixture likewise and allow it cook on low for about ten hours. I dearest the combination of Worcestershire sauce and tomato soup. Very tasty.

Didn't have any tomato juice so used the same amount of Ragu. Added ane/2 cup beefiness broth because I was worried it would be dry (turned out perfect). Didn't use a tin of stewed tomatoes, only rather added a container of scarlet tomatoes. Picky boyfriend loved it, & everything was super tender & flavorful.
02/10/2011
It is a great recipe, but I had to add some corn starch to thicken it up a scrap every bit it turned out to be more of a soup than a stew. Other than that, no complaints!
01/20/2009
good just non very "flavorful".. adjacent fourth dimension i will add spices
12/30/2006
This just didn't quite suit our sense of taste when done and married man wanted more than broth so I added some beefiness broth a can of Rotel tomatoes and just dumped in a package of Knorr's Vegetable Soup mix. These additions were more suiting to united states of america.
02/12/2009
tastes more similar vegetable soup than beef stew. was easy to make, but didn't taste like stew.

We made this again and used fresh jalapenos and added some garlic pulverisation and Italian seasoning. We honey this recipe! -------------------------------------- This was very skilful but needed a little more salt (I like salt!). We used jarred sliced jalapeno, considering it is what we had and also V8 in place of tomato plant juice for the aforementioned reason. Very tasty and nice on a crisp twenty-four hour period.

I think this is a not bad recipe for stew! The marinade was wonderful. I like my stew with goop so I also added a cup of h2o and a whole soda tin size of 5-viii. It was perfect! I cooked information technology x hours. The Jalapeno'south were a unexpected spicy twist! Husband didn't similar them though. I think next time I volition go out out to make it more than traditional.
03/05/2012
This is a great stew, although I made a few changes. I added celery. And so I marinate the meat with 3/4 cup of "Hot and Spicy" Five-eight (instead of tomato juice), a ane/4 loving cup for "Jack Daniels" and a packet of onion soup mix the Worcestershire and herbal seasoning.
05/10/2011
Splendid carte du jour. I added fresh fennel and leeks to the vegetable mix, and substituted carmine wine for the tomato plant juice. I also added fresh rosemary and basil. The result tastes bully the offset meal and just as proficient the second. All of this also works well with a adept roast instead of cubed stew meat.

This was AMAZING! I forgot to pick up V8 at the store, merely I had a tin can of beefiness stock and used that. This was my first fourth dimension making beefiness stew and everyone said it was fab! Thanks!
02/27/2007
This was a really great stew! We did add a tin of mushroom soup and a jar of beef gravy, left out the jalepeno's and increased the stewed tomatos to a big tin can (28oz). It was the best stew I accept evr had. I served it with a large dallop of sour foam on top. Yum!
08/06/2006
AMAZING!!!!
02/07/2005
I submitted this and my recipe doesn't phone call for lycopersicon esculentum juice. It's for V-8, which is a vegetable juice. I can imagine it would be tomato-ey with tomato juice and stewed tomatoes.
02/eleven/2008
I really loved this recipe for the ease of it, and at my dad's request added dumplings to the stew - it turned out cracking!
05/29/2013
I made this dish as stated and found it to be fantabulous. The meat was very tender and the potatoes were soft.
05/09/2005
Family didn't really care for this one. I probably won't make it once again.
11/06/2012
I've made this recipe a few times. It is loftier in tomato flavor rather than beef especially if you skip marinating the beef in Worcestershire sauce. I used diced tomatoes instead of stewed which is but my preference. I didn't use the jalapeno peppers either because I get heartburn from them. Instead of the no common salt seasoning I used salt, pepper, oregano, basil and garlic. This recipe is very yummy but feel information technology should be called Tomato beefiness stew rather than just beefiness stew. The name is a bit misleading. If you lot find the lycopersicon esculentum taste a bit to acidic I recommend adding a tablespoon of sugar just like yous would when making spaghetti sauce.

My husband made this and instead of letting the vegetables soak separately overnight, he mixed everything together the night before. Information technology turned out fine, except that the potatoes were but nearly one-half cooked at the end of the twenty-four hour period. We did use the peppers, and the flavor of the stew was first-class - we didn't think it had as well much tomato flavour at ALL. In fact, when we arrive once more, we plan to use much less potato and twice as many stewed tomatoes.
01/28/2005
My first slow-cooker recipe ever! This was really easy to make, and tasted pretty traditional. I was worried it'd be too tomato-flavored, but was surprised to find that when cooked, the stew was in not a tomato plant sauce, or even a gravy, just more like a watery goop (tasty though). I threw the jalapenos in, which made it even tastier. I'll probably make this again.
11/14/2004
I increased this recipe to 10 servings.Because the goop is thin I boiled four c tomato juice, added one c milk and iii tbsp cornstarch, boiled once again and and so added to the stew. In the last hour of cooking I also added two c. of cooked barley. One time adjusted the recipe was excellent.
04/19/2006
I thought this was o.thou. My meat was pretty tough and the potatoes and carrots were not completely done even afterwards cooking information technology for over seven hours. After my husbands' commencement bowl, he gave it a 3.2. Later his 2nd bowl, he gave it a iii.75! I retrieve that this is a practiced bones recipe that you can add whatever vegetables you lot would similar to it. I won't be in a hurry to make this once again, but I volition make it again...somewhen.

An old-fashioned standard fabricated super piece of cake.
10/04/2004
A nifty stew. Not bland but not over kill with season either. Really simple to make especially since yous prepare the items the 24-hour interval before. Extremely filling. Also is groovy served with a big crusty garlic breadstuff/Crouton.

I decided to endeavour this recipe based on the proposition of marinating the veggies in water and the meat in seasonings. I threw together my own no-salt herb seasoning that included a pinch of cayenne pepper and boy was it amazing. This stew is great, even when substituting whatever y'all accept in your cupboard for its ingredients (like watered downward lycopersicon esculentum soup, or reconstituted lycopersicon esculentum paste). My cayenne pepper gave it just enough zing and the other flavors all together were fantastic. What a great recipe.
04/12/2013
Succulent! I did though add together mixed Italian spices and, considering I didn't have tomato plant juice, I added tomato paste and hot water.
01/28/2018
This is a traditional Irish-American recipe. It is savory and filling-perfect for a cool dark or when you demand comfort food. Thank you for posting.
02/20/2019
I added an envelope of dry onion soup mix

I liked information technology, but I made a few alterations. I thought the beefiness marinade was excellent, only I used ii Tbsp of Worcestshire sauce, and 1 i/2 Tbsp of herb seasoning, which I had to google what it even was. Herbs are seasonings, IMO. but whatsoever. I also browned the beef prior to cooking. I didn't accept tomato juice, so I mixed a tin of unflavored sauce with a can of water. I didn't have stewed tomatoes, so i mixed 1 can of diced tomatoes with 1 tsp of Oregano, 1 tsp of Basil, and 1 Tbsp of Garlic with the diced tomatoes and used that. I also added 1/four loving cup red vino vinegar, and 1/2 cup regular water to simmer it in. Plus 1 bay leaf. Overall I thought it came out well cooked, but kind of banal. I didn't add jalapenos, but it seemed lightheaded to me. I think a nuance of crushed cerise pepper might have been a amend addition, perchance if I decide to brand this once again.
03/fifteen/2019
I haven't cooked this yet so I'm unable to requite my rating @ the moment.
01/xx/2018
I volition take to brand it once more considering I accidentally overcooked it and my potatoes and veggies turned to mush. I volition try it again, thank you for asking.
03/29/2020
would attempt different spices for our taste - married woman did not like the W sauce at all. We did not use jalapeno peppers at all.
11/17/2015
I cooked this at 400F, initially, for about 40 minutes, then took information technology out, stirred, then knocked it down to 275F for 3 hours in a dutch oven. As well added 5 strips of bacon, cooked crispy and so crumbled. Besides added i tbsp of tomato plant paste and a loving cup of red wine (I keep a jug of burgundy on paw for just such purposes). Astonishing.
